Therapy
DepartmentOur Therapy Gym encompasses physical therapy, occupational
therapy and speech therapy. All disciplines are under physician direction with
licensed physical, occupational and speech therapists and licensed therapy aides.
The therapy department is an integral component of the facility whose goal is
to maximize functioning for the resident and to educate the resident and family
as to the needs and imitations of the resident.

Nursing Care Services Nursing
services are provided directly by and/or under the supervision of registered nurses.
Directed by a physician, each member of the multidisciplinary team assesses the
resident and individualizes a plan to attain the highest practicable functioning
of the resident. See a list of some of the nursing services provided at BMCC.

Nursing Services:
Intravenous, intramuscular or subcutaneous injections and intravenous feeding
(hyperalimentation)
Insulin injections, self-administration of insulin
Nasogastric tube, gastrostomy and jejunonstomy feedings
Insertion, sterile irrigation, replacement of catheters, care of superpubic catheter
Pain management and control
especially for residents who are suffering from terminal conditions and who are
often administered morphine either via intravenously, intramuscularly or subcutaneously
Antibiotic therapy for
local or systemic infections, i.e. residents with MRSA infections, VRE infections
Treatment of wound care,
i.e. pressure ulcers, surgical ulcers and other skin conditions requiring aseptic
dressing changes.
Heat
treatments that require observation by skilled nursing personnel.
Rehabilitation nursing that includes teaching and adaptive aspects of nursing
as part of an active treatment plan.
Regimes in the administration of oxygen, trachodialator therapy, tracheostomy
care and aspiration.
Colostomy care during the early post-operative period and associated teaching
of care.

Our qualified respiratory therapy and nursing staff, will
assess and treat respiratory conditions. Our on staff (24/7)
Respiratory Therapy includes:
Aerosol
and oxygen therapy
Artificial
airway care
Bronchial
hygiene
Tracheostomy
care
Respiratory
self-care education
The Tracheostomy Rehabilitation program provides maintenance
and care of the tracheostomies as well as restoration of speech and swallowing
loss when appropriate.
